چکیده

The nucleosynthesis and other observable consequences of a nova outburst depend sensitively on the details of the thermonuclear runaway which initiates the outburst. One important source of uncertainty in our current models is the nuclear reaction data used as input for the evolutionary calculations. We present preliminary results of the first analyses of the impact on nova nucleosynthesis of all reaction rate uncertainties considered simultaneously. 1. Nuclear Uncertainties in Novae Observations of nova outbursts have revealed an elemental composition that differs markedly from solar. Theoretical studies indicate that these differences are caused by the combination of convection with explosive hydrogen burning which results in a unique nucleosynthesis that is rich in odd-numbered nuclei such as C, N, and O. Such nuclei are difficult to form in other astrophysical hosts. Many of the proton-rich nuclei produced in nova outbursts are radioactive, offering the possibility of direct observation with γ-ray instruments. Potentially important γ-ray sources include Al, Na, Be, and F. The observable consequences of a nova outburst depend sensitively on the details of the thermonuclear runaway which initiates the outburst. One important source of uncertainty is the nuclear reaction data used as input for the evolutionary calculations (Starrfield et al. 1998). A number of features conspire to magnify the effects of nuclear uncertainties on nova nucleosynthesis. The Impact of Nuclear Reaction Rate Uncertainties on Evolutionary Studies of the Nova Outburst

The observable consequences of a nova outburst depend sensitively on the details of the thermonuclear runaway which initiates the outburst. One of the more important sources of uncertainty is the nuclear reaction data used as input for the evolutionary calculations. A recent paper by Starrfield, Truran, Wiescher, & Sparks [1] has demonstrated that changes in the reaction rate library used withi...

Nuclear Reaction Network for Primordial Nucleosynthesis : a detailed analysis of rates , uncertainties and light nuclei yields

We analyze in details the standard Primordial Nucleosynthesis scenario. In particular we discuss the key theoretical issues which are involved in a detailed prediction of light nuclide abundances, as the weak reaction rates, neutrino decoupling and nuclear rate modelling. We also perform a new analysis of available data on the main nuclear processes entering the nucleosynthesis reaction network...

Proton-rich nucleosynthesis and nuclear physics

Although the detailed conditions for explosive nucleosynthesis are derived from astrophysical modeling, nuclear physics determines fundamental patterns in abundance yields, not only for equilibrium processes. Focussing on the νpand the γ-process, general nucleosynthesis features within the range of astrophysical models, but (mostly) independent of details in the modelling, are presented. Remain...

Prospects in Classical Nova Modeling and Nucleosynthesis

Classical novae are fascinating stellar events, at the crossroads of astrophysics, nuclear physics and cosmochemistry. In this review, we outline the history of nova modeling with special emphasis on recent advances and perspectives in multidimensional simulations. Among the topics that are covered, we analyze the interplay between nova outbursts and the Galactic chemical abundances, the synthe...

The Nacre Thermonuclear Reaction Compilation and Big Bang Nucleosynthesis

The theoretical predictions of big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) are dominated by uncertainties in the input nuclear reaction cross sections. In this paper, we examine the impact on BBN of the recent compilation of nuclear data and thermonuclear reactions rates by the NACRE collaboration. We confirm that the adopted rates do not make large overall changes in central values of predictions, but do a...
